What is antimicrobial resistance?
Antimicrobial resistance refers to a situation in which antimicrobial drugs given in the right doses, for the right condition and period of time fail to give the expected relief.
We should note, that according to different studies, this is happening everywhere in the world but greatly affecting the under developed countries where we lie.
Though silent, antimicrobial resistance effects shout louder in the public health sector, economy of the country, health quality of the citizens and emotional stability of the same. Reports have gone ahead to show projections of how wild this battle can get if not addressed today.
Does this battle affect everyone?
Yes, antimicrobial resistance spares no one. Actually there seems to be a solution to the resistance; according to studies done two new drugs will soon be available to fight a drug resistant superbug that’s in England. “Drugs watch dog NICE says cefiderocol and ceftazidime with avibactam offer value for money and will save lives.” These last lines of defense will tackle severe infections which cannot be cleared by other treatments. Now the question is will everyone afford these drugs, how much of these are available and lastly talking about availability when will this come to Africa.
